Monday evening, the average cost for a gallon of gas in the country is $4.06, according to AAA. The current price, up 6 cents from Sunday and 45 cents from last week, is the closest it has ever been to the all-time record of $4.11, set in July 2008.
Gasbuddy, the popular fuel-savings app that gives users the cost of gas in their area, had their online services go down temporarily on Monday due to record-breaking traffic as people look for the cheapest place to fill up their tank.
As of this morning prices spiked in central Florida to $4.19 per gallon average. The fuel prices are adding more pressure to already increasing prices. Inflation is expected to rise at record levels and put further strain on families budgets.
