GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP – Police confirmed Sunday that an active shooter incident took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on McCandlish Road, leaving multiple victims before the suspect was taken down. Authorities said there is no threat to the public at this time.
According to Grand Blanc Township Police, the church was actively on fire following the shooting. Officers and emergency personnel were on scene responding to both the fire and the victims. Officials did not immediately release the number of people injured or the condition of those transported from the site.
Law enforcement emphasized that the situation is contained and urged residents to stay clear of the area. “There are multiple victims and the shooter is down. There is NO threat to the public at this time. The church is actively on fire. PLEASE AVOID THE AREA!!” the department announced in its public alert.
For those directly impacted, police designated a reunification site at the pavilion to the north of the church. An additional offsite reunification location was established at the Trillium theater at Holly and McCandlish.
Investigators are expected to release further details as the scene is secured and fire crews gain control of the blaze.
