Naples, FL – September 15, 2025 – A Naples man is facing serious charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a fatal crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred on September 14, 2025, at approximately 8:58 p.m. at the intersection of US 41 and Guilford Road in Naples.

Troopers say a 41-year-old man from North Port was attempting to cross the travel lanes of US 41 on his bicycle when he was struck by a silver 2017 Infiniti SUV traveling southbound. The impact was severe, and the bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following the collision, the SUV fled the area. A short time later, law enforcement officers located the damaged vehicle at an apartment complex just 3.6 miles from the crash site.

Photos released by investigators show the Infiniti sustained heavy damage to its left front fender and windshield area, consistent with the reported impact.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old Jelekzey Gamboa Thiele of Naples, was arrested by State Troopers with assistance from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death and booked into the Collier County Jail.

FHP officials emphasized the importance of staying at the scene after a crash, reminding drivers that fleeing can lead to severe legal consequences.

This case remains under investigation.
