Fatal Collision on US-301 Leaves Two Dead, One Seriously Injured

A tragic two-vehicle collision on US-301 has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left another seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:01 PM at the intersection of Fairway Meadow Drive. Authorities report that a 76-year-old woman from Lithia was driving a Subaru Outback southbound on US-301 when she attempted to turn left. In doing so, she crossed into the path of an oncoming Volkswagen Tiguan traveling northbound, driven by a 44-year-old woman from Ruskin. The Volkswagen struck the Subaru with significant force, causing severe injuries to both drivers and an 80-year-old male passenger in the Subaru.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, transporting all three individuals to nearby hospitals. Tragically, the driver of the Subaru and her male passenger later succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when navigating intersections and to remain vigilant for oncoming traffic when making turns.

Sergeant Steve Gaskins of the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the details of the crash in a public statement. Further updates may follow as the investigation progresses.
