Although corticosteroids have been proven to reduce mortality in severe disease,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R1\">1<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;there has been little convincing evidence on interventions that may prevent disease, reduce hospitalizations, and reduce the numbers of people progressing to critical disease and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"266\" src=\"https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/ivermectin.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/ivermectin.jpg 474w, https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/ivermectin-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"__p7\">Ivermectin is a well-known medicine that is approved as an antiparasitic by the World Health Organization and the US Food and Drug Administration. It is widely used in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to treat worm infections.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R2\">2<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R3\">3<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;Also used for the treatment of scabies and lice, it is one of the World Health Organization\u2019s Essential Medicines.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R4\">4<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;With total doses of ivermectin distributed apparently equaling one-third of the present world population,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R5\">5<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;ivermectin at the usual doses (0.2\u20130.4 mg\/kg) is considered extremely safe for use in humans.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R6\">6<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R7\">7<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;In addition to its antiparasitic activity, it has been noted to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties, leading to an increasing list of therapeutic indications.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8248252\/#R8\">8<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/doctor-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/doctor-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/doctor-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/doctor-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/doctor-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/politicalbourbon.com\/en\/file\/2021\/09\/doctor-2048x2048.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/whisnews21.com\/index.php\/2021\/01\/31\/south-african-doctor-discovered-ivermectins-covid-19-efficacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/whisnews21.com\/index.php\/2021\/01\/31\/south-african-doctor-discovered-ivermectins-covid-19-efficacy\/<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Data supporting a role of ivermectin in decreasing transmission rates can be found from South American countries where, in retrospect, large \u201cnatural experiments\u201d seem to have occurred. For instance, beginning as early as May, various regional health ministries and governmental authorities within Peru, Brazil, and Paraguay initiated \u201civermectin distribution\u201d campaigns to their citizen populations.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8088823\/#R48\">48<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one such example from Brazil, the cities of Itajai, Macapa, and Natal distributed massive amounts of ivermectin doses to their city&#8217;s population, where in the case of Natal, 1 million doses were distributed.
